The authors of this study analyzed the intra-aortic balloon pump on the basis of a simulated circulation and theoretical model of arterial pulse transmission. The parameters of the study include the timing of initiation, the rate of inflation and deflation, and the volume of gas pumped. The model used does not contain any effective peripheral components with regulatory properties, thus simulating the heart mechanically adjusting its stroke volume according to the operating conditions. It was observed and calculated that the amount of “stroke” volume, “LV”, “aortic” pressure and “peripheral” pressure characteristic changes are due to the impact of mechanical pump operation as a whole, circulatory system without physiological reaction
