吴大澂于光緒十二年(1886)十一月至十四年(1888)七月間任廣東巡撫,本文對當時其幕府成員進行了考證;對其幕府開展的學術活動以及吴大澂的金石研究活動進行了梳理;並藉此揭示幕府學人對吴大澂學術研究的作用,以及吴大澂幕府學術活動對嶺南篆刻、嶺南文化發展的影響。
