中国水墨艺术有千余年的历史,它的文化内涵十分丰富而深刻,可以说中华民族将她最内在的本质、她对生命的感悟、对自然精神的心领神会完美地表现在了她的博大丰厚的水墨艺术传统之中。中国古典绘画的一个久远传统是通过山水花鸟来表现人,表现人的心境意绪,表现人对自然生命的体会和感动,从而让人们经由这份体会和感动去领悟宇宙和人生的真谛。然而20世纪以来现代生活的发展使中国传统水墨艺术渐渐丧失了它赖以生存的人文环境。作为心灵的一种表达,延续传统画法的水墨艺术又因其陈陈相因而成为对当下感受的双重遮蔽——既遮蔽真实感受的真实性又遮蔽虚假体验的苍白和空洞,它的现代转换因而成为一个尖锐的文化问题在20世纪末的中国显得格外突出。
