2009年4月10日,从湖北省区划地名工作会议上传出喜讯,该省25%的乡镇已完成地名公共服务工程建设乡镇设标任务,2000个行政村设置了村牌,武汉市、恩施州已通过设标验收检查;全省30%的县市开展了地名规划,其中已有30个县市完成了地名规划编制任务;全省地名数据信息总量达700万字,开通地名网站12个。地名信息在社会交往中为群众生产、生活服务的作用越来越明显。
