常熟是著名历史文化古城,在流派纷呈、风格迥异的盆景艺术中,常熟盆景在苏派盆景中占有一席之地。多年来,常熟盆景爱好者,对一些老树桩运用“补片”技法来造型,进行了探索,收到了较好的效果。补片造型技艺,就是苏常派盆景中‘做片’功夫的补充。所谓“补片”,就是运用靠接的方法,根据作品当时的树态及层次需要,调动作者审美目光,选择形态较好的枝干,靠接(甚至飞接)在树桩的原来形态的缺片部位,即理想造型部位,以培育预想的完美树
