枝城港务局座落在长江与焦柳铁路交汇处,是长江干线四大煤炭中转港口和九大水铁联运港口之一的中型港口。铁路运输公司(原名铁路管理站)组建于1987年4月。现有职工174人,其中专业技术人员28人。领导机构设经理1名,副经理4名,书记和工会主席各1名。管理机构包括车、机、工、电、检、货运6大工种。设置计财、技术、安监三科,办公室、材料、多经三室。现有上游型蒸汽机车三台(1636、1301、1413),铁路专用线21公里,固定资产1500万元,年运输量300万吨,主要担负着南北进入港口的煤炭、磷矿、水泥等其他物资的运输任务。 港区铁路专用线于1983年6月破土动工,1986年12月竣工,1987年3月投入运用。在枝城火车站和港区内建编组站,10股道,8条货物线,一次可停车364辆。枝城专用线的营运,扩大了港口中转能力,降低了港口营运成本。
