新县地处豫南大别山腹地,鄂豫皖三省结合部。近年来,新县立足丰富的“红”、“绿”旅游资源,抢抓国家正在实施的“1231”红色旅游工程发展机遇,实施“旅游强县”战略,以“红”带“绿”,以“绿”促“红”,大力发展旅游产业,促进了经济社会快速发展。2005年全县生产总值达30．8亿元,农民人均纯收入达2905元,分别同比增长15．3%、35．5%和13．5%,县域经济综合实力在全省排序第51位,一年上升15个位次。2005年,全县共接待游客80．3万人次,门票收入达535万元,旅游相关收入达1．5亿元。今年元～9月份,接待游客59．28万人次,门票收入414万元,旅游相关收入11794万元,其中外国游客到新县旅游310多人次。旅游经济已成为新县经济最具活力的增长点。

Tourism economy has become the most dynamic economic growth point of New County.
