民主德国铁路采用了一些延长道岔寿命的办法:采用热处理尖轨和基本轨;用专门的设备涂油;打磨尖轨和基本轨。为了打磨,前不久设计师们还研制了可移动的打磨机组。它是由通用小车和标准钢轨打磨机组成的工作装置,工作装置可以固定在专门的导轨上,在两个面上移动,可垂直方向转50°。机组的全部重量110kg(包括通用小车重50kg),长1.7m,宽1.3m,高0.7m。打磨机由三个工人操纵,并且要调动小车和监视列车。打磨一组道岔的尖轨和贴近尖轨的基本轨需15~30min。这样的工作装置在民主德国铁路的所有领工区全有。

It consists of a universal trolley and a standard rail sander consisting of a working unit that can be mounted on a special guide rail and moved on both faces for vertical rotation of 50 °. The total weight of the unit 110kg (including universal car weight 50kg), length 1.7m, width 1.3m, height 0.7m. The sander is maneuvered by three workers and is used to move the car and monitor the train. Sharpening the sharp rails of a group of switch points and the basic rails close to the sharp rails need 15 ~ 30min. Such a working installation is available in all the construction sites of the German Democratic Railway.
