With the conclusion of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, China will fully liberalize its “second child” in 2016. Into the two-child era, the shortage of pediatricians again become the focus. Recently, it was reported that the State Health Planning Commission proposed to coordinate the Ministry of Education to resume enrollment of undergraduate students in pediatrics, urging the joint establishment of colleges and universities to take the lead in holding a bachelor’s degree in pediatrics, and supporting conditional colleges and universities in strengthening the training of pediatric personnel and enlarging enrollment of undergraduate students. This is also one of the highlights of 2016. This means that the pediatrics professions that have stopped enrolling since 1999 are expected to resume undergraduate enrollment after 17 years.
