时间的抽象性,使得它不得不借助其他具体的概念来进行隐喻。时间隐喻有着重要的理论意义,由于文化背景的存在,中西方在对时间的隐喻认知中存在共性和个性,“时间如同容器”和“时间如人”这两类常见的隐喻,同时出现在英汉两类语言中,并在隐喻文化中占据着重要的地位,而“时间如流水”这样的隐喻在英汉两种语言中地位悬殊,英语中类似的隐喻远不及汉语强势。相似性和差异性的碰撞,使得两种语言中的时间隐喻在存在共性的同时,又闪耀着自己特有的文化内涵。
The abstraction of time makes it necessary to borrow metaphors from other specific concepts. The metaphor of time has important theoretical significance. Due to the existence of cultural background, both Chinese and western commonalities and individualities in the metaphorical understanding of time have two common metaphors: “time is like container” and “time is like man” , While appearing in both English and Chinese languages and occupying an important position in the metaphorical culture. However, metaphors such as “time is fluent” have great disparities in English and Chinese languages, and similar metaphors in English are far behind those in Chinese . The collisions between similarities and differences make the metaphors of time in both languages shine with their own unique cultural connotations while they exist in common.
