Cholesterol effluxregulatory protein (CERP), a protein encoded by the ABC1 (ATPbindingcassettetraporter1) gene, plays an important role in the reverse transport of cholesterol. ABC1 gene mutations lead to abnormalities of their encoded CERP, causing cholesterol reverse transport disorder, resulting in the accumulation of cholesterol in peripheral tissue cells, leading to dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis and a series of clinicopathological changes. The intracellular lipid and nuclear receptors PPARγ, LXR and RXR play a regulatory role in the expression of ABC1 protein. These findings have opened up new prospects for the development of new drugs, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and stroke.
