邓小平的群众路线思想先后经历民主革命时期、社会主义革命和建设时期、改革开放新时期三个阶段。其内容丰富,在继承和发展马克思主义唯物史观和以毛泽东为核心的党的第一代领导集体之群众史观的基础上,结合时代背景变化,紧贴人民切身利益,从朴素的“为了群众”到成熟的群众观点,从碎片化的只言片语到完善的体系规章,邓小平同志有关群众路线的思想日趋丰富、日趋贴近时代,是新时期我党的根本工作路线。同时,对当代中国社会主义现代化建设和当前如火如荼进行着的党的群众路线教育实践活动亦有深刻的借鉴意义。
