我县谷子栽培面积较大,历年播种都在七万亩以上,占粮食作物播种面积的13％左右。由于几年来品种比较混杂,加之栽培技术没有赶上去,因此,产量不高,单产总在三百斤上下徘徊。在农业学大寨群众运动的推动下,为了进一步落实毛主席“备战、备荒、为人民”伟大战略方针,一九七四年从省农作物研究所引进了二十个夏谷品种,在胡石门大队试种证明。以鲁谷二号表现最好,产量最高。试种的二分地鲁谷二号,总产144斤,折合亩产720斤。
