前卫艺术在西方肇始于浪漫主义,当时的艺术家反感于市侩的资产阶级生活方式,希望在自己的艺术中体现一种疏离性或否定性。20世纪80年代,中国的艺术家们同样以一种否定的方式在艺术中表达出自己的理想主义热情,希望以这种方式来推动中国社会的变革。但前卫艺术有一个硬伤便是无法脱离市场的供养,因此前卫艺术家们的疏离首先便是建立在对市场进行有限肯定的基础上的。90年代以来的中国前卫艺术表现出了对市场全面地迎合,这已经偏离了前卫精神的根本。对于前卫艺术来说,对市场的承认仅仅是策略性的,而其最核心的精神应该是一种疏离或者否定的立场。
Avant-garde art began in the West romanticism, the artists of the time disgusted with the bourgeois lifestyles of the market, hoping in their own art to reflect a kind of alienation or negative. In the 1980s, Chinese artists also expressed their enthusiasm for idealism in art in a negative way, hoping to promote the transformation of Chinese society in this way. However, there is a flawed avant-garde art is unable to leave the market supply, so the alienation of avant-garde artists, first of all is built on the limited affirmation of the market based on. China’s avant-garde art since the 1990s has shown its full engagement with the market, which has deviated from the avant-garde spirit. For the avant-garde art, the recognition of the market is only strategic, and its core spirit should be a kind of alienation or negative position.
