This article reports the initial detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in the air. Using a portable atmospheric sampler Model CD-1 and a formatted impactor tube, eight were positive for hepatitis B virus (HBsAg) -positive contaminants in the hepatitis laboratories and four were positive; four were collected in an office that was more susceptible to contamination, 2 were positive; 8 were collected in 8 hepatitis ward, positive 1; less susceptible to contamination and HBsAg positive carriers housing collected specimens negative; experimental HBsAg air specimens 7, 4 positive. Positive specimens and neutralization test results verified. Positive specimens of electron microscopy to see Dane particles and HBsAg particles. Our results show that HBsAg may form air pollution and suggest that airborne infection may be one of the ways of hepatitis B transmission.
