The Sickle and Hammer factory has conducted a variety of different heat treatment programs on chrome manganese silicon steel in order to get the most reasonable process specifications. Three heat treatment options were explored: 1) the heat treatment used in the workshop was a high temperature anneal; 2) the second was a normalizing followed by a tempering (specified in 1935); and 3) pearlite annealing. Annealing of the sheet is carried out in the mill’s rolling shop, a box furnace for the heavy oil to be used as the working fluid. Plates are placed in heaps on the heap and covered with covers.
