拿破仑以睡狮喻中国,谓之睡狮一旦醒来,将震动世界。 胡适跑到美国去,吃了几片洋面包,于是言必称美国。他不说中国是睡狮,而说是美人,是睡美人。他在1914年写了《睡美人歌》,说中国这个睡美人正在睡觉,须得西方的武士一吻而唤醒之,并与西方的武士结为夫妻,才有前途(因而他主张全盘西化)。

He wrote The Sleeping Beauty Song in 1914, saying that the Sleeping Beauty in China is asleep, awakened by a kiss from Western warriors and married to Western warriors, and thus promising (thus advocating an overall Westernization) .
