Beijing has historically been one of the most earthquake-prone areas in China. In order to resist earthquakes, when the old Beijingers built their houses, the wooden structures were used cleverly and they had a certain anti-seismic function. Wood has toughness, is not easy to break, and is used for connection of wood columns and wooden beams. This is a flexible connection that allows for smaller movements and can reduce the impact of strong earthquakes. In ancient large buildings, thick roofs and pillars were connected with brackets. The brackets were a series of concave and convex wooden blocks, each of which was movable.
