In the 19th century, as China gradually became a semi-colonial society, a large number of Chinese were fleeing to the United States. The Chinese living in the United States have experienced the vicissitudes of life and wrote an important page in the history of Sino-American relations. The completion of the first U.S. transcontinental railway in the mid-19th century was an important contribution made by Chinese laborers to the historical development of the United States. In 1862 and 1864, the U.S. Congress passed two bills on the construction of the first railroad running across the North American continent, the Central Pacific Railway, from the east and the west at the same time. The eastern route was constructed by Union Pacific from the Ohama to the west and the western route was built eastward from the Central Pacific Company from Sacramento.
