軍用無人駕駛地面車輛又可稱為戰場機器人。戰場機器人可以為後續部隊掃雷清障、標誌車道,為地面部隊警戒守衛、偵察探測。在隨機情况下,代替人完成多項嚴酷的軍事任務,卓有成效地提高地面部隊的生存能力和戰鬥能力。海灣戰争中多國部隊的M60坦克靠遠程控制完成雷區突破任務,就是美國軍用戰場機器人技術在實戰中的一次應用。無人地面車輛借助裝在車上的計算機系統與無綫電及視頻通信設備,在專門的機器人指揮中心控制下自動行駛並完成規定的作戰任務。其受控行駛方式可分為遠距離操縱、計算機輔助遠程駕駛、自動道路循踪三種。機器人指揮中心外形似軍車,内設一個指揮臺,兩個駕駛臺,指揮臺兼備
Military unmanned ground vehicles can be called battlefield robots.
