中共十一届三中全会之后,为了祖国统一大业,台湾早日回归,出台了一系列开明的对台政策,给台湾国民党当局以巨大冲击。在中共的努力下,两岸开始了秘密交往。就在台湾方面即将派出正式代表与大陆进行和谈之时,坚持一个中国的台岛政治强人蒋经国突然于1988年1月13日病逝。这使秘密进行的两岸接触戛然而止,两岸两党正式对等谈判的美好设想也因此付诸流水,留下了世纪之憾。请看《国共两党八十年代的秘密谈判》一文。
After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in order to reunite the motherland, as soon as possible, Taiwan returned with a series of enlightened policies toward Taiwan and brought a tremendous blow to the Taiwan KMT authorities. Under the efforts of the CPC, cross-Strait exchanges of confidentiality began. Just as Taiwan formally sent its official representatives to peace talks with the mainland, Chiang Ching-kuo, a Taiwan-based political man who persecuted China, suddenly died on January 13, 1988. This has led to the abrupt end of the cross-Strait contacts that were conducted secretly and the beautiful assumption of formally negotiating the two parties on both sides of the Strait has therefore been put to a running water and has left a regrettable century.
