1997年日本子宫癌研究会对子宫颈癌的临床进行期分类进行了修改,鳞状上皮癌的Ⅰa期又细分为Ⅰa_1期与Ⅰa_2期(腺癌仅有Ⅰa期)。新Ⅰa_1期中包括旧分类Ⅰa期93.5％,Ⅰb期的8.3％,新Ⅰa_2期相当于旧Ⅰb期的22.8％,将旧分类的患者按新分类法分类后,对其治疗方法有给予再研究的必要。Ⅰ期中Ⅰa期指间质浸润深度在5mm以内,纵轴宽不超过7mm,根据其浸润程度分为Ⅰa_1期与Ⅰa_2期(表1),主要治疗方法为手术,但也存在可否保留子宫
1997 Japanese Society of uterine cancer on the clinical classification of cervical cancer were modified, squamous cell carcinoma Ⅰ a period and subdivided into Ⅰ a_1 and Ⅰ a 2 (adenocarcinoma only Ⅰ a period).
