扁桃又称巴旦杏、巴旦木、洋杏等,是世界上一种珍贵的木本油料树,又是优良的干果树。目前世界年产量约60万吨左右,与核桃产量不相上下。扁桃的栽培历史悠久,适应性广,世界各国都有栽植。西班牙、美国、意大利、希腊、土耳其、伊朗、葡萄牙等国家栽植最多,年产量均在两万吨以上。其中西班牙、美国年产量均达10万吨以上。美国扁桃产量增长最快,1952年仅产1500吨,到目前已增长83倍。扁桃经济价值较高,在国际市场上每吨价值约为甜杏仁的1.4倍。
