棉花早衰每年都有不同程度的发生。轻度早衰表现为花开上顶,主茎上部变细呈尖顶,果枝短小,空果枝多。早衰严重时,主茎顶尖干枯,上部果枝叶片变褐枯焦,蕾铃大量脱落或干瘪瘦小。早衰使秋桃减少,铃重降低,一般减产10—20%,严重者达30—40%。棉花早衰的根本原因是营养不良;而造成营养不良的原因则是多方面的。是天旱。蕾花期地上地下部急剧生产,需肥需水量大,此时若缺水,不仅影响棉株水分生理,土壤中可溶性养分也相对减少,使棉株营养受到影响。二是缺肥,尤其是有机肥和钾肥。有机质含量低于1%或速效钾含量低于100PPm 的轻壤土和 Cotton premature aging occurs to varying degrees each year.
