记者:在开展保持共产党员先进性教育活动中,胡锦涛总书记在“六个坚持”中首先强调“要坚持理想信念,坚定不移地为建设中国特色社会主义而奋斗”。为什么中央和有关学习材料总是特别强调这个问题?张蔚萍:理想信念是人们行动的精神动力,而共产党员的理想信念更是共产党人的精神支柱、政治灵魂,是思想行为的“总开关”。一旦“总开关”出了问题,没了这根弦和这个意识,整个系统都会随之出现问题。所以,我们党历来都把坚持理想信念问题放在首要地位。进入新世纪以后,我们面临着高科技的迅猛发展,改革开放进一步深化和扩大,经济成分、就业方式、生活方式、分配方式多样化的趋势。在这种形势下,共产党员如何保持先进性、坚持理想信念,是党中央一直在思考的一个重大问题。现在,我们的党员队伍已经达到6800多万人。从总体上看,党员队伍的主流是好的,是具有先进性的。但是,也必须看到,有相当一部分党员和党员干部的素质还不够高,先进性还不能充分发挥和体现;也有一部分人已经不合格或者基本不合格;还有一部分人问题相当严重甚至腐败变质。特别是,有的党员“四信”(指马克思主义信仰、共产主义信念、社会主义信心和对共产党的信任)动摇,甚至丧
