Objective To analyze the course of malaria control in Wuzhou City for 65 years and provide a scientific basis for the future malaria surveillance and prevention in this city. Methods The data of malaria control in the city from 1950 to 2015 were collected and analyzed. Results The incidence of malaria in the city in the 1950s was 1 435.55 / 100,000, higher than the average level in Guangxi. The malaria death rate was 0.95 / 100,000. In 1979, the incidence of malaria among local residents dropped to 3.61 / 100,000. From 1997 to date, no local malaria infection has been found. In 1980, a floating population of imported malaria patients appeared in the city. The number of imported malaria cases exceeded the number of local malaria cases since 1981; 87.50% (7/8) of the imported malaria cases in the recent 5 years were from Southeast Asian countries. Conclusion Wuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has reached the standard of eliminating malaria but is still threatened with imported malaria. Monitoring and control should continue to be strengthened.
