一郁达夫的生前挚友刘海粟先生,在《论郁达夫》一文中这样评价郁达夫：“达夫是中华大地母亲孕育出来的骄子,是本世纪最有才华最有民族气节的诗人之一,爱国是他一生言行中最突出的倾向……他憎恨无爱的人生,犹如厌弃无花的沙漠。在黑沉沉的铁屋里他带着觉醒后的悲愤和惶惑,大喊过爱的饥饿,反抗压在青年们头上的封建层岩,反抗冷漠、愚昧、狡诈、贫困的旧时代。他从不同流合污,只是面对严酷的现实,在看不到光明的时候,绝望颓唐之情不断来冲袭他。然而,作为抗菌素的现实主义精神又不断地诱导他。达夫很真诚,也坦率得惊
