如果把亚细亚的特色用一句话表示,我则会毫不犹豫地回答:“地理的、历史的多元性。”亚细亚的社会和文化不负其各种自然条件,显得异常复杂多样。它们象是十几块各种各样不同色彩的板块拼成的一样,所以,这种色彩纷呈的现象,无论如何,不能用单一性较强的、欧洲诸学问中产生的理论和尺度来论述。更何况用旧时的中国史的标准和时代划分去衡量东洋史无异是一种粗鲁的行为。 亚细亚具有许多异质的社会和文化并驾齐驱,仅仅与国际间的交流就值得重视。因此,“东西交流史”具有特别重大的意义。而且,如果它与“南北交流史”配合在一起的话,可以说这是形成当今亚细亚史的最好手段。
If we put the characteristics of Asia into one sentence, then I would rather hesitate to reply: “Geographical and historical pluralism.” Asian and Asian societies and cultures, despite their natural conditions, are extremely complex and diverse. They are the same as a dozen of different kinds of plates of different colors. Therefore, this colorful phenomenon can not be discussed in any way by the theories and standards produced by European monuments . What is more, it is a rude act to use the old standards of Chinese history and the division of time to measure the history of the Orient. Asia has many heterogeneous societies and cultures that go hand in hand. It is worth noting that international exchanges alone can not be ignored. Therefore, “the history of the exchange of things” has a particularly significant meaning. And if it is aligned with the history of South-North exchanges, it can be argued that this is the best means of shaping the present-day Asian history.
