截至2013年底,全球有人类免疫缺陷病毒感染者/艾滋病患者(HIV/AIDS)3 500多万人,平均每天新增6 000人感染。在AIDS患者尸检中,70%~80%有神经系统合并症,其中以神经系统感染最多见。AIDS脑病是最常见的神经系统合并症,发生率可达50%,是HIV感染脑组织引起神经病理变化导致持续渐进性智力和运动功能丧失,即认知和行为障碍,也被称为艾滋病痴呆综合征(AIDS dementia complex,ADC)。
