The cost of making conductive plastic is about to decrease. The Institute of Organic Chemistry at Parma University has obtained high conductivity polypyrrole films using inexpensive chemical processes. Polypyrrole is a new conductive polymer, promising in the electronics industry. However, the poor mechanical properties of polypyrrole have been partially overcome by the use of composites made from polypyrrole and other conventional polymers such as PVC. Much work has now gone from laboratory to mass production, but now precision electrochemistry processes for polypyrrole films are less likely to shift from laboratories to mass production and so far the pure chemical method of polypyrrole production is not electrochemistry A suitable alternative.
