“An apple a day, the doctor away from me ”. Australian researchers now find the scientific basis for the saying. March 31, the British “Daily Mail” quoted a University of Western Australia study reported that eating apples every day may help reduce the risk of premature death. After 15 consecutive years of follow-up surveys of 1 456 women aged 70-85, the researchers found that older women who insisted on daily intake of more than 100 g of apple had a lower risk of premature death than those who did not. The researchers say this is mainly due to the higher content of antioxidant flavonoids in apple peel.
