映入眼帘的仿佛是无声电影中的一幕。一辆手拉车的后面紧连着一辆小小的拖车,拖车上面堆放着一大摞行李。只见一位妇女拉着车子左拐右转全速沿铁轨跑去。她的身后,另一名中国妇女在拚命地追赶,紧随其后的是一位较为年长、满头银发的美国人。后面还有他的妻子,也在吃力地紧追着前面的拖车以及那位年轻女士的十分匆忙的脚步。他们沿一辆停放的列车向前冲去。车子终于停下,行李被扔上了火车,那个年轻妇女和两位年纪较大的美国人匆匆跳上火车。不到十五秒,列车便启动了——多谢路面施工所引起的交通堵塞,才使我们平生第一次在中国体验了赶车的滋味! 这是我们在这儿的第二个年头。我们发现这是一个迷人的国度,的确非同一般,大小都市都在迅猛发展。我们住所旁边的一条宁静的小街现在已变成了稳固的交通干流。我们看到的是一个对中国的前途满怀希望,信心百倍的民族。几乎任何人都坚信他们的生活在逐步改善或者还会更好。我们看到的还有产品富足的乡间,那里长有许多庄稼,绝无丝毫的土地浪费。正是这些,构成了山东成为两个生性快乐的美
Seemingly silent scene in the movie. A cart was attached to the back of a cart, with a large stack of luggage stacked on it.
