萨本介:平山是个忙人。要想找他可不是件容易事。常常是找他的人在东,他去了北;他在南边,找他的人又奔了西。大概吃了不少闭门羹吧,朱新建特地为他刻了一方印文是“整天东奔西跑”的印。这方闲文印章把这位并不闲的主人描绘得淋漓尽致。看人是一回事,看这个人的画有时就是另一回事了。平山的画可 以说是那种“另一回事”的典型。他的画风既不像赶时髦“东奔西跑”,画画也不温不火,好像有时静得无声胜有声;又像出于污泥而不染的荷花那么娇嫩,那么水灵,那么高洁。偏偏他画荷而不画花,经常出现在他画面上的是几只躲在鲜花幕后的莲蓬。平山的画又多少带一点悲凉,正如白石老人的一首词:“秋风来了,严寒早,杀尽草花多少。静直曲池芳,连夜新霜,留得一年风景,清露冷莲房。”真对劲儿,好像白石老人是在为平山的画题照。
