Henchard is the hero of Hardy’s Mayor Casterbridge. Hardy’s portrayal of the death of the tragedy coincided with the death-process theory of the famous American death and hospice researcher Elizabeth Kabul Rose. This not only reflects Hardy ’s outstanding novel writing level, but also reflects the great writer’ s concern for life and respect for human dignity.
