When debugging serial links between computers, you need to monitor the data moving in both directions on the serial link. As long as the data is half-duplex - one-way “talk” at a time, the circuit shown in Figure 1 can capture the data on the transmit and receive lines that are connected to the RS-232C and retransmit the data to Three computers. This third computer monitors the data with a simple terminal program that allows the user to view the displayed number on the screen
