风险投资是指专业投资人员为新创或市值被低估企业进行的投资。风险投资家不仅投入资金,而且还用他们长期积累的经验、知识和信息网络帮助企业管理人员更好地经营企业。因为这是一种主动的投资方式,因而由风险资本支持而发展起来的公司成长速度远高出普通同类公司。通过将增值后的企业以上市、并购等形式出售,风险投资家得到高额的投资回报。 从这个意义上说,应该将Venture Capital翻译成“创业投资”。我们曾就此问题与美国专家交换意见,他们认为“风险投资”没有表达出Venture Capital的真正内涵,“创业投资”,应该更为准确。Venture在英文中并不仅仅是“风险”的意思,美国人把新企业叫“New Venture”,把合资企
Venture capital refers to the investment made by professional investors in new or undervalued enterprises. Venture capitalists not only invest money, but they also use their long-established network of experience, knowledge and information to help business executives better run the business. Because this is a pro-active investment, companies that grew out of venture capital support grew far faster than their peers. Venture capitalists get a high return on investment by selling value-added businesses in the form of public offerings, mergers and acquisitions and other forms of sales. In this sense, Venture Capital should be translated into “venture capital.” We have exchanged views with U.S. experts on this issue. They think “venture capital” does not express the true meaning of Venture Capital. “Venture capitalization” should be more accurate.
