Agarwood is an evergreen tree, a total of eight species, distributed in various countries in southern Asia, produced in China in Guangdong and Hainan Island. Before the Song Dynasty, Aquilaria was dependent on imports from countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, which were expensive. After the Song and Yuan dynasties, a surrogate appeared in Dongguan, Guangdong and other places. It was another botanical agarwood. The modern botany was named “Aquila,” and it was called “Wanxiang.” Guan Hong was shipped from Guangzhou and shipped first to Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. Then it changed to a small harbor nearby and shipped it to the northern provinces. This small harbor people called it “Hong Kong” at the time. This is the origin of Hong Kong’s name.
