In the 1990s, there was a tendency in urban design to establish a design for walking or urban public transportation as the main mode of action. It was initially called “new traditionalism” and later renamed “new urbanism.” Its main design works feature urban design guided by the establishment of traditional neighborhood communities, represented by DUANY and PLATERZYBERK (hereinafter referred to as D/P-Z), and urban design based on public transportation sites represented by CALTHORPE. . Although the design focuses on different aspects, the focus and starting point of the two are basically the same, that is, to explore inspiration from the urban planning and design concepts before and after the Industrial Revolution, and to establish a public gathering center in today’s cities. Form a residential community with a measure of walking distance. The following describes the design concept of “New Urbanism”, which has been developing in recent years, by introducing the design of D/P-Z to readers.
