“People are not born for failure. A person can be destroyed but cannot be defeated.” The old man of Santiago is a material loser, but his spirit is not destroyed, and his unyielding will to fight the sea will inspire more powerful people. Failure is not terrible. Who can not fail in life? Some people are destroyed in failure. Others grow up in failure. In the face of the weak, failure is the wave that overturns the boat of life. The bigger the waves, the easier it is to be swallowed. The real failure is not the destruction of the body, but the relaxation of the spirit. As a strong person, you should not be depressed and pessimistic in the face of failure. You should not stop seeking because of frustration. How old is the spirit of the old man of Santillago known to him and the spirit of China’s “Yugong move the mountains,” is it worth our study and reflection in today’s increasingly competitive society?
