不少人认为燕乐的角调是个很迷惑人的问题。蔡元定说七宫四调里“正角声不收”;沈括说:“姑洗角,今为大石角,用‘凡’字。”宋仁宗《景祜乐髓新经》说:“姑洗角……为小石角”;段安节说:“小石角调亦名正角调”;张炎说:“仲吕闰,俗名小石角,用‘一’字”;清人陈澧说:“角调以变宫为角,即是变宫调”;还有近人干脆说:“角无正闰,所谓闰角者谬也”等等。乍看似真有说不清理还乱的感觉,所以近、现代人们往往称它为“角调之谜”,说“它迷乱了古今中外的许多乐家和研究燕乐调的人”。

Therefore, modern people often call it the “dialectical mystery” and say “it has confused many musicians at home and abroad, and people who study Yan Liao tune.”
