To overcome some of the disadvantages of radioimmunoassay (RIA), a fluorescent immunoassay was used in order to achieve a rapid, homogeneous (ie, without the need for a separation step), no hazardous materials and expensive equipment. This article describes the method for thyroxine (T_4) analysis, including its enhanced fluorescence. When T_4 is labeled with a fluorescent substance such as a fluorescent amine {4-phenyl-spiro [furan-2 (3) -l’-phthaloyl anilide] 3-3-dione} 2,4-diphenyl-3- (2H) -furanone], the fluorescence of the labeled complex increases markedly when bound to anti-T_4-antibody.This article describes how this fluorescence enhancement effect is applied To fluorescent immunoassay.
