The first cross-sea highway bridge in China, Xiamen Gaoji Strait Highway Bridge, has been jointly awarded by the First Highway Engineering Corporation of the Ministry of Communications and the Third Navigation Engineering Bureau. The bridge will begin construction at the end of this year. The construction period will be 30 months and it will be completed in the first half of 1990. The Xiamen Gaoji Straits Bridge is a key construction project during the national “7th Five-Year Plan” period, and it is also the first construction project in China’s highway history to use state investment and local bond issuance to raise funds.
