李林从小就是一位要强的女孩,自幼受到良好的家庭教育。父亲李四光热爱祖国、热爱人民、热爱科学、忠诚朴实的思想作风,对李林产生了良好的影响,在她的心灵深处留下了不可磨灭的烙印。她从小就立志,要做一个像父亲那样的科学家,为祖国的富强作出自己的贡献。11岁那年,李林随父亲到了英国伦敦,与英国小朋友同堂学习。两年后,她回到国内,在广西桂林上初中。初三只读了一个学期,她便进入高中学习,两年后就考上了广西大学。性格刚强、坚毅的李林选择了机械系,全系只有她一个女生。一个女孩主动要求学习机械,这在20世纪40年代不能不算是一个惊人之举。1944年,20岁的李林从大学毕业,进入成都航空研究院工作。两年后,她获得英国文化协会奖学金,到英国伯明翰大学攻读金属物理专业硕士学位。来到英国,她暗下决心：一定要为祖国学好本领,用自己的勤劳和智慧,为发展祖国的科学事业创出一条新路,为振兴中华效力。
Li Lin was a strong girl since childhood, a good family education since childhood. In 1944, 20-year-old Li Lin graduated from university and entered the work of Chengdu Aviation Research Institute. Two years later, she was awarded a British Council scholarship, studying for a master’s degree in metal physics at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Came to Britain, she secretly resolved: we must learn skills for the motherland, with their hard work and wisdom, for the development of science in the motherland to create a new road for the revitalization of China effectiveness.
