In October 1996, China’s Ministry of Health issued a circular on accelerating the re-evaluation of local standards of western medicine. It urged all localities to evaluate local standards with the principle of unified examination and approval of new drugs so as to improve and unify the standards of quality of medicines and make efforts to form a national drug standard As the main body of the drug standard system.
