我国是一个统一的多民族国家,有56个民族,少数民族有1亿多人,居住的地域十分广阔,民族自治地方约占国土面积的64％,西部和边疆绝大部分地区都是少数世族聚居区,我国陆地边境线有1．8万多公里在民族地区。由于地理、历史等方面的原因,当前民族地区发展仍然比较落后,与发达地区相比还存在较大差距。在我国,民族问题是一个关系到祖国统一、边防巩固、经济发展、社会稳定的大问题。民族关系是我们深化改革、加快发展必须处理好的重大社会关系。要从历史和战略的高度,深刻认识我国民族工作面临的复杂国际环境,深刻认识世界民族问题对我国的影响,深刻认识正确处理民族问题在党和国家事业发展全局中的极端重要性。要充分考虑到我国民族众多、各民族发展很不平衡这一基本国情,把正确处理民族问题、实现各民族团结进步,作为全面建设小康社会的重要目标,作为建设中国特色社会主义的重要内容,作为加强党的执政能力建设的重要方面,真正落实到实际工作中,不断提高处理民族问题的能力和水平。
China is a unified multi-ethnic country with 56 ethnic groups and more than 100 million ethnic minorities living in a vast territory. Ethnic autonomous areas make up about 64% of the total land area. Most of the western and frontier regions are all minorities Inhabited areas, China’s land border there are more than 18,000 kilometers in the ethnic areas. Due to geographical and historical reasons, the development of the ethnic minority areas is still relatively backward. Compared with the developed areas, there is still a long way to go. In our country, the ethnic issue is a major issue that concerns the reunification of the motherland, border defense and consolidation, economic development, and social stability. The ethnic relations are the major social relations that we must handle well in deepening the reform and speeding up our development. From the perspective of history and strategy, we should have a profound understanding of the complicated international environment our nation’s work faces, profoundly understand the impact of the world’s ethnic issues on our country, and profoundly understand the extreme importance of correctly handling the ethnic issues in the overall development of our party and our country. We must give full consideration to the basic national conditions in which our nation has many nationalities and imbalanced development among all ethnic groups. As the important goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all its aspects, we must correctly handle ethnic issues and unite and progress all ethnic groups. As an important part of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, As an important aspect of strengthening the building of the party’s ability to govern, we should really implement it into practical work and constantly improve our ability and level of handling ethnic issues.
