Singapore is located in the gateway to the Malacca Strait, the shipping artery between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is a port city with a poor natural resource. For more than 20 years, with its favorable geographical location and its economic development strategy suited to its own national conditions, it has become an important commercial port, an international financial center and a manufacturing base of considerable size in the world. Between 1968 and 1984, the average annual economic growth rate surpassed that of the western developed countries and among the developing countries.
