More than half of newly added 1 million cancer patients in Europe each year are elderly, while older cancer patients are often left untreated for age. This study compared the clinical characteristics and treatment of cancer patients before and after the age of 70. Subjects and Methods The 200 cancer patients under 70 years of age and over 70 years of age from June 1992 to September 1994 were divided into two groups. The average age was 54 years (17 to 59 years) and 75 years (70 to 92 years) respectively. The ratio of men to women is 112: 88 and 122: 78 respectively. Analysis of comparative factors: functional status (PS), according to Zubrod’s score; with chronic disease; time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis of cancer: duration of disease (according to TNM system); treatment.
