说是英语教学的目的和要求之一,又是一种教学手段,也是培养学生口语表达能力的重要一环。英语口头表达能力和交际能力是构成学生外语基本功的四项基本技能(听、说、读、写)之一。不具备较强的口头表达能力,学生就难以胜任将来的教学工作。另外,听、说、读、写等单项技能的训练又是相互促进的,缺少其中任何一种能力,都会影响另外三种的练习。里弗斯曾指出:“在阅读和写作时,我们求助于口头上了解的语言。”可见,加强说的技能训练有助于其他技能的发展。只有具备了较强的说的能力,学生在学习过程中才能获得更多的语言练习机会,获得更多的语言知识和专业理论知识。
