AIM:To investigate the expression of tumor suppressorgene p27 and spindle checkpoint gene Mad2 and todemonstrate their expression difference in colorectal cancerand normal mucosa and to evaluate its clinical significance.METHODS:Immunohistochemical staining was used fordetection of expression of Mad2 and p27 in colorectal cancerand its corresponding normal mucosa.RESULTS:Mad2 was significantly overexpressed incolorectal cancer compared with corresponding normalmucosa(P<0.01,x~2=7.5),and it was related to thedifferentiation of adenocarcinoma, lymph node metastasis andsurvival period after excision(P<0.05,x~2=7.72,x~2=4.302,x~2=6.234).The rate of p27 positive expression inadenocarcinomas and normal mucosa was 40% and 80%respectively.There was a significant difference in p27expression between adenocarcinomas and normal mucosa(P<0.001,x~2=13.333),which was related to the differentiationdegree of adenoca rcinoma and lymph node metastasis(P<0.05,x~2=8.901 x~2=4).The positive expression of p27was not correlated with survival period after excision.CONCLUSION:Defect of spindle checkpoint gene Mad2and mutation of p27 gene are involved mainly in colorectalcarcinogenesis and associated with prognosis of colorectalcancer.Li GQ,Zhang HF.Mad2 and p27 expression profiles in colorectalcancer and its clinical significance.World J Gastroenterol 2004;10(21):3218-3220http://www.wjgnet.com/1007-9327/10/3218.asp
