艾瑞娜·博思
索菲特银座大饭店总经理博思的妻子，跟随博思居住过很多国家和地区，对比较文化有着独特的见解。
Irina Boers, wife of Maarten Boers, General Manager of Jinan Silver Plaza, has been to many countries and regions with her husband. She has unique research on comparative culture.
Part of my husband’s work is, that we have the opportunity to live and work in different parts of the world. We have lived in Switzerland, Belgium, Hong Kong and now Jinan. Wherever he gets transferred, since he is such a gentleman, I will always be happy to follow him. At every new posting my first duty is to create a warm and cozy home.
It always amazes me how different it is to live in a country or just pass through on vacation. By living in a country, it usually takes a few months’ even years, one develops a much better and deeper understanding.We stayed 6 years in Hong Kong and even now I realize I have just scratched the surface.
Sure, I sometimes miss Hong Kong. It is easy to get spoiled there, nearly everybody speaks English, it is a shopping paradise and I had to leave many dear friends behind. Dropping by in the late afternoon at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht club, where we still remain members, was always a treat. Lovely weekend sails are also dearly missed, maybe this summer in Qingdao.
Living in Jinan is again a totally new dimension. However, Shandong province also has its charm and advantages. First of all life is not as hectic and stressful. More important, the people are much more welcoming, friendly and open. It keeps amazing to me though, that when we walk through town together, it is difficult to make headway, so many people want to take a picture with us! Also, quite often we get stopped by, usually teenagers, who want to practice their English. Where are you from? How are you? People really seem to appreciate it if we take a few moments.
Another surprise is the role and position of women in society. In Europe this is always a much discussed topic, are we treated equal… Here nobody seems to talk about it much, it is just a fact. I think China should be proud of that. Unfortunately this is little known to the rest of the world.
In the next month’s we hope to further extend our knowledge and understanding of China. Although I have already seen quite a bit, Xian, Shanghai, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Qingdao, etc. we still have a long wish list. One of the trips we certainly want to make is to Tibet.
By now I am really looking forward to spring. All the sites I have already visited must be looking gorgeous when the blossom is out!
Another dream is to learn Mandarin. Unfortunately everything I learned in Hong Kong is rather useless here (Cantonese), I will have to start all over again. Because of our many long staying guests, I now speak more German (We speak German in Austria) than I have in years.
In conclusion, there are still many exciting things to look forward to!
我丈夫工作的一部分，就是我们有机会在世界各地生活和工作。我们住过瑞士、比利时、香港和现在的济南。无论他调动到什么地方，我都乐意跟随着他，因为他确实非常绅士。每次调动过后我的首要任务就是营造一个温暖舒适的家。
每次来到一个新的国家，或者是假期旅行路过一个新的地方，当地不同的风土人情都会让我感叹不已。通常在一个国家呆上几个月甚至一年，才会对那里有比较深的了解。我们在香港住了6年，直到现在我对那里还只是了解个皮毛而已。
当然，我会常常想念香港。因为在那里简直会被宠坏——几乎每个人都会说英文，还是购物的天堂。但我不得不离开香港亲爱的朋友们。现在想想，在一个美好的傍晚，到皇家香港游艇会（我们现在还是那里的会员）去拜访一下，还是一件非常惬意的事情。同时，我们还错过了令人向往的周末航行，也许这个夏天是去青岛。
同样，住在济南又是一个新的开始，济南也有很多迷人之处和有利条件。首先，这里的生活没有那么繁忙和充满压力。更重要的是，这里的人们都很热情、友好和开放。让我感到惊讶的是，我们一起去逛街，竟然很难前行。因为有很多人要跟我们合照。而且我们时常被一些年轻人叫住，他们想练习英语口语，于是就会用英语说，你从哪里来？你好吗？我们停下来跟他们聊几句，他们都会非常感激。
另外一处让我惊奇的地方就是这里的女人在社会中的地位。在欧洲，女人们常常会聚在一起抱怨说，这样对我们公平吗？而在这里，几乎没有女人谈论这个话题，男女平等只是一个不争的事实。我想中国应该为此而骄傲。遗憾的是，在其他国家人们并不重视这个问题。
在接下来的几个月里，我们希望能够更深更广地了解中国。虽然我们已经去过中国的很多地方，西安、上海、东莞、杭州、成都、青岛⋯⋯我们仍希望继续前行，我们最想去的地方之一是西藏。
如今，我热切盼望着春天的到来。当百花盛开的时候，那些我曾经去过的地方一定会非常美丽迷人。
我的另一个梦想就是学普通话。我在香港学的广东话似乎在这里用起来不太灵光，所以我又要重新开始学习了。由于我们酒店有许多长期居住的德国人，所以最近我讲德语比较多（我们在奥地利是讲德语的）。
总的来说，前方还有很多令人激动的事情值得期盼。
